Was the wisdom in the comment about the disconnect between our fighting class and our chattering class?
(It is one I have seen elsewhere...)
Other words--of wisdom, of fright, of courage, of compassion--have been recorded by many participants and bystanders in the field of battle.
Yet people seem to insist on seeing their own preconceptions affirmed in what goes on. It is strange, yet true. (And probably a mirror, in miniature, of the way in which people and cultures have always responded to news which does not fit neatly into a pre-packaged view of the world.)
